Operational Tours

During my time in the army I completed a number of operational tours. One of them was in Bosnia and the rest was in Northern Ireland; mostly South Armagh.

Me and soome of the lads in Gorni Vakuf - Bosnia The first operational tour I enbarked upon was to Bosnia in 1996 as part of the NATO force IFOR. I was 18 years old when I went and spent six months over there; it was quite an experience.

The second operational tour wasn't one tour but several short tours spread out over two years in Northern Ireland between 1999 and 2001; 1 kings was the PRB. What this meant was that during the marching season, such as Drumcree, we would be called over to assist the RUC. We would also complete several tours in Bessbrook Mill (South Armagh).

For the Bosnia tour I was awarded a NATO medal for service in FRY, and for Northern Ireland I was awarded a General Service medal.
